Salapao (thai: ซาลาเปา), also known as Baozi, Nikuman or Banh Bao, is a white steamed buns with different fillings. You can fill it with sweet things like Azuki beans or Mung beans or with savory things like pork, chicken or seafood.
Salapao is great for the colder days but you can also eat them whenever you want.
Salapao is also great for take away and lets your hunger vanish faster ;)
The Salapao in this recipe are filled with red pork which is really popular in Thailand. Have fun to try it out!
Salapao Sai Muu Daeng Recipe:

Number of servings: 8 buns
Ingredients:
The Dough:
> 2 1/2 Cup Wheat Flour
> 1 1/2 Tsp. Dry yeast
> 2 Tbsp. Melted white butter
> 2 1/2 Tbsp. Sugar
> 1 Cup Warm Water
> 1 1/2 Tsp. Dry yeast
> 2 Tbsp. Melted white butter
> 2 1/2 Tbsp. Sugar
> 1 Cup Warm Water
Filling:
> 250 g Red Pork
> 2 Tbsp. Chopped Spring Onion
> 1 1/2 Tsp. Soy Sauce
> 2 Tbsp. Brown Sugar (white sugar is also ok)
> 2 Tbsp. Tomato Sauce
> 1 1/2 Tsp. Cornstarch (dissolved in water 1 tbsp.)
> 2 Tbsp. Tomato Sauce
> 1 1/2 Tsp. Cornstarch (dissolved in water 1 tbsp.)
What you also need:
> Steamer
> Baking paper cut into 5x5 cm (2x2 inch) square
Directions:
1. Sift flour in a large bowl
2. Mix dry yeast with sugar and water and let it rest for about 5 minutes.
3. Make a hole in the flour and fill it with the dissolve yeast.
3. Knead well until everything is well mixed and add the melted butter. Knead again until a smooth homogene dough comes out. Form the dough into a ball.
4. Cover the bowl with the dough inside and let it rest for about 1 hour.
5. While the dough rest prepare the filling. Stab the pork with a knife.
6. Add soy sauce, tomato sauce and brown sugar to the pork. Mix well and let it marinate for about 10 minutes.
7. Dice the pork and fry it until the pork is done. Add the cornstarch-water mixture and let it cooked for about 5 minutes on low-level.
8. After the hour is over, get the dough. It should get now the double size. (In my case it get really big, because I let it rest for about 3 hours... Oops..)
9. Knead the dough for about 10 minutes and form it to a sausage.
10. Cut the sausage in to 8 pieces and form them into balls.
11. Cover the balls with a towel and let it rest for about 10 minutes.
12. Chopped the spring onion and add it to the red pork. Mix well.
13. Take one dough-ball and roll it to a flat circle.
14. Place one tablespoon red pork in the middle of the circle. Close the dough.
15. Place the buns on baking papers
16. Place them in the steamer and let them steam for about 30-45 minutes.
17. After 30-45 minutes remove the buns from the steamer and continues until every bun is done.
And tadaaa! Now they are finish :D
You can also dip the buns in soy sauce or leave it, whatever you like :)
